Armand Hammer is an American hip hop group from New York City, New York.[1] It consists of Billy Woods and Elucid.[2] On October 25, 2013, "Shark Fin Soup" was chosen by Spin as one of the "Rap Songs of the Week".[3]

History

The duo's history goes back to 2011, when Elucid was featured as a guest on Billy Woods' "History Will Absolve Me", which was release in 2012. The two quickly developed a friendship that blossomed into a music duo, Armand Hammer. Their first album was released in 2013, the same year in which Woods saw his fourth album "Dour Candy" released in the summer, and Elucid had his own collaboration album with producer A.M. Breakups entitled "For Madmen Only" under the name Cult Favorite.

In September 2013, Armand Hammer released a mixtape, Half Measures.[4] It was produced by Small Professor, Uncommon Nasa, Steel Tipped Dove, and Blockhead, among others.[5] In October that year, the duo released the first studio album, Race Music, which was produced by the likes of Marmaduke, Willie Green, Steel Tipped Dove, and Blue Sky Black Death.[6] Tiny Mix Tapes called it "a potent record about life, art, sex, drugs, politics, and violence."[7] It was chosen by The Village Voice as one of the "10 Best New York City Rap Albums of 2013".[8]

In 2014, Armand Hammer released an EP, Furtive Movements.[9] It was chosen by The Village Voice as one of the "10 Best New York City Rap Albums of 2014".[10]

In 2017, Armand Hammer released a studio album, Rome.[11]

In 2018, Armand Hammer released a studio album, "Paraffin". The duo promised that this would be their first vinyl only release, with physical copies available on July 13, 2018. The digital version of the record was released on Bandcamp August 30 of that same year. The track "Vindaloo" was released on June 6, 2018, followed by "Dettol" on July 13.
