Big House (Canadian band)

Big House was a Canadian rock band, active in the early 1990s.[1] Based in Edmonton, Alberta, the band originally consisted of vocalist Jan Ek, guitarist K. B. Broc, bassist Craig Beakhouse and drummer Sjor Throndson.[2]

They formed in 1981 as a punk rock band named Down's Syndrome, but evolved toward a more commercial hard rock sound by the late 1980s.[1] They released a four-song EP, Pretty Things, in 1990 as a preview of their self-titled debut album, which was released in 1991 on BMG Records.[3] By the time they began touring to support the album, however, Beakhouse had left the band and been replaced by Jay Scott King from LA-based band,Brunette known for their infamous Monsters of Rock publicity stunt during Metallica's set.[4] The album was a Juno Award nominee for Best Hard Rock Album at the Juno Awards of 1992.[5]

The band's only further release before breaking up was Live in Concert, a live album recorded at a concert performance in Toronto, Ontario which was distributed exclusively as a bonus gift to subscribers of Metal Forces magazine.
