Bidhannagar Municipal Corporation or BMC is the local governing body responsible for the civic infrastructure and administration of Bidhannagar. The jurisdiction of B.M.C includes Salt Lake City(a planned satellite town of Kolkata) and areas adjoining VIP Road such as Kestopur, Baguiati, Narayantala, Raghunathpur, Tegharia, Hatiara, Helabottala, Jyangra, Narayanpur, Chinar Park, Rajarhat, Newtown and NSCBI Airport. It was headed by Administrator Shri Pawan Kadyan, IAS till elections were held in October 2015 after delimitation into 41 wards and constitution of its first Board of Councillors headed by Mayor Shri Sabyasachi Dutta with Shri Pawan Kadyan, IAS transitioning into the role of Municipal Commissioner.[1] BMC constitutes of 41 wards. The Corporation is under administrative jurisdiction of Bidhannagar subdivision in the district of North 24 Parganas and police jurisdiction of Bidhannagar City Police. The current Municipal Commissioner is Smt. Pritha Sarkar, IAS who has been in the post since March 2017.
