Bhoomikanya

Bhoomikanya is a limited series that will premiere on 30 July 2018 and will air on Star Jalsha. The show portrays a modern-day adaptation of Rupak Saha’s well known classic “Tarita Puran”.

Sohini Sarkar will step into the shoes of protagonist ‘Tarita’ while the characters of Maheshwar and Chandrabhanu will be portrayed by Chiranjeet Chakraborty and Kaushik Sen respectively. Tarita’s love interest will be played by Anirban Bhattacharya who is debuting as Ankush, a forest ranger who helps Tarita in the travails of life.

This show will also be the television directorial debut for Arindam Sil who has championed multiple successful movies in the genre of suspense and thriller. To top off this select ensemble of cast and crew, the music for this show has been composed by renowned Tabla player Bickram Ghosh. The title track has been sung by Ujjaini Mukherjee.

Plot

The story follows Tarita, a herpetologist, who returns home in the beginning of the series. She comes back to Sundargarh, the stronghold of Chandrabhanu, who engages in all moral evils that are prevalent in the region – human trafficking, corruption and illegal abductions to name a few. Maheshwar, the chief advisor to Chandrabhanu, prophesies the downfall of Tarita in the beginning of the series. She is assisted in her endeavors by Ankush, a brave forest ranger who is also Tarita’s love interest. Overall, the unfolding of this gripping tale, delineates the triumph of good over evil.
