Belvoir Park Hospital was a cancer treatment specialist hospital situated in Newtownbreda, South Belfast, Northern Ireland. Belvoir Park held Northern Ireland's only radiotherapy unit, until the opening of a new cancer treatment centre in Belfast City Hospital.

History

The hospital, which opened in 1906, was originally known as Purdysburn Fever Hospital and later Montgomery House, before being renamed Belvoir Park Hospital in the 1960s. Throughout its lifespan, the hospital was the main regional centre for oncology, offering radiotherapy and chemotherapy. treatments.[1]

In 1983, the hospital was the first in the province to take delivery of a CT scanner. The hospital's Gerard Lynch Centre held many cancer support groups, in order to aid both sufferers and their families.[2]

Closure

Belvoir Park Hospital closed in March 2006, when cancer treatment, including radiotherapy, was transferred to Belfast City Hospital.

In 2011, it was reported by The Irish News that intruders took multiple medical documents, and equipment from the hospital, in 2012, the Belfast Health Trust was fined £225,000 for the event.

In April 2013, the 62-acre site went on the market, with about 23 acres of land zoned for housing, in June 2014, the site was sold to a private developer known as the Neptune Group.

Neptune have since restored some of the original buildings to function as modern townhouses, and the first showhomes were opened in June 2017. [3]
