Basílio Pina de Oliveira Seguro (died 18 November 2008) was a Portuguese colonial administrator, a military general officer. He was posted as colonel of the infantry.
Biography
Between other functions, he was president of the municipality of Figueira da Foz from 1958 to August 1964, he was later governor of the district of Cabo Delgado in Mozambique from 1961 to 1969, later, he was civil governor of the Autonomous District of Ponta Delgada from 6 August 1970 to 18 February 1974 and later governor of Cape Verde for over a month from March to 25 April 1974,[1][2] the date of the Carnation Revolution in the Portuguese Main.
He returned to Portugal in 1969, where he was put into reserved. He joined the ranks of the overseas administration as chief inspector and became governor of Cape Verde where he remained until 25 April 1974, and was consequently exempted by the decree by the Junta de Salvação Nacional. (National Salvation Board).[3]
On 8 July 1962, he was made officer of the Military Order of Avis, on 14 February 1970 he was Grand Officer of the Order of Prince Henry the Navigator, on 21 May 1985, he was promoted to a Commander of the Military Order of Avis.[4]
Named after
A settlement in Cabo Delgado in Mozambique was named after him and was called Basílio Seguro.
