António Augusto Peixoto Correia (b. 11 October 1913 – year of death unknown) was a Portuguese colonial administrator.

Biography

Peixoto Correia was born in Vila Nova de Gaia, a suburb of Porto in northern Portugal. He headed to his African provinces and was governor of the Province of Huíla in Angola. He was also Head of the Office of the Minister of Overseas Territories.

Between 1957 and 1958, he was provincial governor of Cape Verde, he succeeded Marques de Abrantes Amaral and was succeeded by Silvino Silvério Marques.[1][2]

He returned again to the African mainland and from 1958 to 1962, he was governor of Portuguese Guinea,[3][4] what is now Guinea-Bissau. He succeeded Álvaro Rodrigo da Silva Tavares and its acting governor Abel de Castro Roque. During his tenure as governor, the Guinea-Bissau War of Independence started. He was later succeeded by Vasco António Martins Rodrigues.

Afterweards, he was vice-president of the Council of Overseas Territories from 1960 to 1970. In between 1962 and 1975, he was Minister of Overseas Territories, and from 1969 to 1970, he was vice-head of the Ministry of National Defence.

In 1965, he was elected deputy to the Portuguese Parliament and remained until 1973.[5]
