Barkhad Ali Salah (Somali: Barkhad Cali Saalax, Arabic: برخاد علي صلاح) was a veteran Somali politician & historian. He served as first mayor for Bosaso.[1]
Biography
Barkhad was born in 1932 in the former Italian Somaliland. what present day is Bari region specially the town of Bosaso. He hails from Dishiishe subclan of Mora'ase Darod confederations. From 1939 to 1951, he attended basic education as a student of Italian school. Salah also studied at the Somali National University where he earned a degree in social science.
Career
He engaged into politics and served as the first Mayor of bosaso during prior to independence, in 1960 when Somalia fully gained independence Barkhad was also elected as the first mayor of Bosaso. Later he became governor of Hiiraan region and continued to serve the government, held several senior posts, recently Salah held other posts statable, he became chairperson of Puntland Independent Electoral Commission also served as the puntland minister of endowment and religion affairs. in December 2007, Barkhad became acting mayor of Bosaso town that counting his third time in office as a mayor.
Barkhad passed away in june 2016 in bosaso.
