Ayi Ganpat Tendulkar (1904–1975) was an Indian screenwriter, journalist and actor. He is especially known as the husband of the writer of the science fiction film classic Metropolis by the name of Thea von Harbou.
Early life, family, and education
Ayi's first wife was Sasha Alexandra Passini who was a Russian who he met in Paris in 1924. They were separated after Alexandra married an Italian man.[1]
He then married one of his professors daughter's who was German actress Eva Schubring. Their marriage ended once Ayi began a romantic relationship with married filmmaker Thea von Harbou. Their relationship was part of the motivation for Thea's divorce of Fritz Lang.[2]
Ayi received the Toppiwala scholarship which allowed him to gain admission into a British university however he was not quite ready to study. As a result, decided to study French at Ecole Normale Superieure in Paris.[3]
