Aviation/Century is an under-construction elevated light rail station in the Los Angeles County Metro Rail system, located near the intersection of Aviation and Century Boulevards in the Westchester district of Los Angeles. The station was designed as a terminal station for the Crenshaw/LAX Line[1] and the Green Line. In 2014, however, LAX and LA Metro approved a plan for an automated people mover to the LAX airport, which will not stop at this station. Instead, the Metro Board approved a new infill station at Aviation/96th, which will serve the LAX people mover and become a terminal station for the Green Line.[2]

Despite the new airport station, the Aviation/Century station plans continue. The Century railroad bridge was demolished on July 25, 2014. The Aviation/Century station is currently under construction and slated to open in 2019.

Future service

Recommended service on the Crenshaw/LAX line after opening

In June of 2018, Metro staff recommended a service pattern that would go into effect with the opening of the Crenshaw/LAX Line. One service would connect Norwalk and Expo/Crenshaw and Norwalk, and another, shorter service would connect Redondo Beach with Aviation/Century. Aviation/Century would become the transfer point for passengers on the short Redondo Beach line who needed to access the rest of the Metro Rail system.

At the same time, the current bus shuttle service to the airport will be moved from Aviation/LAX station to Aviation/Century until the people mover and Aviation/96th is complete in 2021.[3]
