The Austin MLS Stadium is a planned soccer-specific stadium to be constructed in North Austin, Texas. It will be the future home of Austin FC, which would be the new name taken by the relocated Columbus Crew SC, a Major League Soccer franchise, should they gain approval to relocate.[1][2]

Construction

The 20,000 seat stadium, one of six development plans announced for the site,[3] is expected to cost $200 million with Crew investor-operator Anthony Precourt privately-financing the construction.[4] Other elements for the 24-acre site and surroundings include green space, housing, and mixed-use retail.

The city of Columbus, Ohio and state of Ohio filed suit against Precourt, Columbus Crew and MLS stating that the move violates the “Modell law”, named after former Cleveland Browns owner Art Modell and enacted during the controversy over that team's move to Baltimore.[5] A hearing is set for September 4, 2018[6]
