Athletics at the 1982 Commonwealth Games – Men's marathon

The men's marathon event at the 1982 Commonwealth Games was held on 8 October at the QE II Stadium in Brisbane, Australia.[1]

The two Tanzanians, Juma Ikangaa and reigning champion Gidamis Shahanga, opened up a large lead (estimated at close to 500 metres), but Rob de Castella closed the gap in the final kilometres to win.
