Aorere River

The fertile plains around the lower Aorere lie in the lower left of this satellite view, which shows the river's outflow into Golden Bay.

The Aorere River is in the South Island of New Zealand.

The headwaters are within Kahurangi National Park. The river flows generally northwards for 40 kilometres (25 mi) before draining into Golden Bay at the town of Collingwood. The Heaphy Track's northeastern end is in the upper valley of the Aorere.

Tributaries of the Aorere include the Spey, Boulder, and Slate Rivers.

Coordinates: 40°41′S 172°40′E / 40.683°S 172.667°E / -40.683; 172.667It receives little angling pressure especially in the more remote headwaters. In its upper reaches it flows through beautiful bush country that will appeal to any energetic angler interested in the chance of snaring a trophy size fish in pristine surroundings. In the middle and lower reaches the river is large and flows over more open land. The water carries more color than the upper reaches, especially after rain though generally remains fishable.[1]
