Anna Thammudu (English: Elder Brother - Younger Brother) is a 1958 Telugu drama film, produced by Kadaru Venkateswara Rao under the Sri Raja Rajeswari Film Company banner[2] and directed by C. S. Rao.[3] It stars N. T. Rama Rao, Sowcar Janaki and Jaggayya in the lead roles,[4] with music composed by Ashwatthama.[5]

Plot

Madhava Rao (A. V. Subba Rao) and Nageswara Rao (Mukkamala) are brothers. Madhav Rao’s wife is Shantamma (Malathi) and they have a son Ravi (Master Balu). Nageswara Rao is bad, cruel and a womanizer. He kills his brother Madhava Rao, cheats his sister-in-law and takes the property into his hands with the help of his girlfriend Vajram (Rajasulochana) and assistant Brahmanandam (Chadalavada). Nageswara Rao also plans to kill Ravi; Shantamma hears this, she escapes and falls asleep when she reaches the outskirts. One thief notices jewelry on Ravi, takes him and runs away. On the way, he leaves the child on the road. Mangamma and her husband notice the child and take the child to rear him. Shantamma’s loyal servant Ranganna (Koteswara Rao) starts searching for Ravi and Shantamma; to his surprise he notices Ravi in his sister’s home in Madras. Shantamma, after waking up goes into shock, a church father Joseph (K. V. S. Sarma) admits her in hospital, she gives birth to a baby boy named as Rajendra (Master Seshagiri). Shantamma gets shelter in the church as a gardener and Rajendra is studying. Once Brahmanandam notices Shantamma, so, he sets up goons, they trap her and take her to a secluded place. While trying to kill her, police reach there, then the goons throw a dead body near her. Police arrest her and she gets 20 years imprisonment. Father Joseph joins Rajendra in an orphanage in Madras for higher studies.

Years roll by, Nageswara Rao also settles in Madras along with Vajram and Brahmanandam and earns a lot unlawfully. Rajendra (Jaggayya) becomes a famous lawyer. Ranganna takes care of Ravi (N. T. Rama Rao) and his niece Padma (Girija) after the death of his sister and brother-in-law. After being released from jail, Shantamma comes to the same city and faints on the road. Rajendra sees her and takes her to his house. Rajendra loves Rani (Sowcar Janaki), daughter of Purushottama Rao (Mikkilineni), clerk of Nageswara Rao. Nageswara Rao has a lust for Rani, but Purushottam refuses and marries Rani with Rajendra. Nageshwara Rao gets angry and wants to possess Rani at any cost. Meanwhile, Brahmanandam traps Padma and takes her to Vajra Vilas. When Nageshwara Rao tries to molest Padma, she jumps out of the building and dies after telling his father and brother about the incident. Ravi wants to take revenge against Nageswara Rao, so he goes to Vajra Vilas. At the same time, Vajram also quarrels with Nageswara Rao about his misdeeds. Nageswara Rao throws a knife at Ravi, Vajram comes in between and dies. Meanwhile, police come there and arrest Ravi. Ravi escapes, joins a drama company and starts harassing Nageswara Rao. Meanwhile, Rajendra comes to know that Shantamma is his mother through Father Joseph. Once, Rani alone goes to a marriage function. Brahmanandam gives a fake call that Rajendra met with an accident. Rani hurriedly goes to Vajra Vilas. Ravi protects her and kills Nageswara Rao. Ravi is arrested and presented in court where Rajendra is in a judge position. Shantamma comes to know that Ravi is also her son through Ranganna. She reveals it to Rajendra and requests him to leave his brother. But Rajendra stands for justice and gives life imprisonment to Ravi. Ravi appreciates his brother's honesty. Finally, Ravi goes to jail leaving their mother's responsibility to Rajendra.
