Ankur Mittal (born 30 March 1992) is an Indian shooter. He won Gold in Double Trap event at 2018 ISSF World Shooting Championships at Changwon, South Korea. He also won silver medal at 2017 World Championships.

Primary and personal life

Mittal was born on 30 March 1992 in Sonipat, Haryana.[1] He is the son of a former double trap shooter, Ashok Mittal, he went to St. Margaret Sr. Sec. School.

Career

2014, Commonwealth Games, Glasgow, Scotland

On 27 July 2014, at Glasgow, Scotland in the Commonwealth Games, at the Barry Buddan Shooting range [2], in the Men's Double trap event, Ankur after securing second position in the qualification round with a score of 132 points, made it to the semi-final where he unfortunately didn't performed well and was placed 5th with a disheartening score of 25 points.[3]

2017, ISSF World Cup, Delhi, India

In the year 2017, in Delhi, India at the ISSF World Cups Ankur participated in Double Trap Shooting (Men) event and won a silver medal.[4]

2017, ISSF World Championships, Acapulco, Mexico

In the year 2017, in Acapulco, Mexico at the ISSF World Championships in Double Trap Shooting (Men) event Ankur won the gold medal.[5]

7th Asian Championship Shotgun in Astana, Kazakhstan

In the year 2017, in Astana, Kazakhstan at the 7th Asian Championship Shotgun, Ankur won a gold in Double Trap Shooting (Men) event as well as a team gold medal.[4]

2017, ISSF World Championships Moscow, Russia

In the year 2017, in Moscow, Russia at the ISSF Shotgun World Championships Ankur participated in Double Trap Shooting (Men) event and won a silver medal.[5]

2017, Commonwealth Championships, Brisbane, Australia

In the year 2017, in Brisbane, Australia at the Commonwealth Championships, Ankur won a gold medal in the Double Trap Shooting (Men) event.

Ankur Mittal has been ranked as World No. 1 in Double Trap Shooting (Men) and only the second Indian shooter to achieve this feat.[5]

2018, Commonwealth Games, Gold Coast, Queensland

In the year 2018, in Gold Coast, Queensland at the Commonwealth Games, at the Belmont Shooting Centre, Ankur won a bronze medal in the Double Trap Shooting (Men) event with a score of 53 points. The gold medal went to David Mcmath of Scotland with a score of 74 points and the silver medal to Tim Kneale of Isle of Man with a score of 70 points. While the other indian shooter, Mohammed Ashab gave a disastrous performance and came fourth compare to his performance in 2014 Commonwealth Games where he claimed the bronze medal.[6]
