JustPark is a technology platform that matches drivers with parking spaces through its website and mobile application.[1] Previously known as ParkatmyHouse, the company was founded in London in 2006 by Anthony Eskinazi.[2] The service lets drivers book via the app or website, and includes commercial and public car parks, in addition to private parking spaces (similar to other sharing economy services, such as Airbnb) - allowing property owners to make money from their underused spaces by opening them up to drivers looking for parking.[3] The company's slogan is "The Parking App: Find parking in seconds".[4]

As of 2017, the JustPark service was used by over 1.5 million drivers and 20,000 property owners across the UK.[5]

History

The company was founded by Anthony Eskinazi in September 2006[6] after he experienced parking difficulties while attending a baseball game in San Francisco.[7] In July 2011, ParkatmyHouse raised venture capital from BMW i Ventures, the venture capital arm of BMW.[8] In January 2012, ParkatmyHouse launched a beta version of their website in the US.[9] The company rebranded as JustPark and raised further funding from Index Ventures in 2014.[10] JustPark closed a record-breaking £3.7m equity crowdfunding campaign in 2015 [11]- the same year that the company won Virgin Media Business's 'Pitch To Rich' (or '#VOOM') competition, with Sir Richard Branson on the judging panel.[12] Alex Stephany was the CEO from December 2012 until November 2015.[13] In 2017, JustPark won the Parking Futures category at the British Parking Awards.[14] The company is headquartered in Kentish Town, North London.[15]

Electric vehicle partnership with Transport for London

In late 2012, ParkatmyHouse formed a partnership with Transport for London, SSE plc and chargepoint manufacturer, Chargemaster, to install free electric vehicle charge points on the driveways of property owners currently renting out their driveways using the website.[16] Once installed, the charge points can be reserved online by third parties using the ParkatmyHouse website.

Rebrand as JustPark and investment from Index Ventures

In June 2014, ParkatmyHouse rebranded as JustPark.[17] The following month, JustPark announced that it had received investment from Index Ventures.[18]

In December 2014, JustPark was named by Management Today as one of the "Five British startups that came of age in 2014", alongside Just Eat, TransferWise, Funding Circle and CrowdCube.[19]

Equity crowdfunding campaign

In February 2015, JustPark launched an equity crowdfunding campaign to raise £1 million on major UK platform, CrowdCube.[20] The campaign hit its target in just four days, attracting a record-breaking number of investors, before overfunding to a total of £3.7m.[21]

Service

JustPark's software is available via its website and mobile applications; it is also built into some Minis.[22] As of 2017, JustPark also provides IVR phone payment technology and digital pay-on-foot machines, which have allowed it to enter the local authority parking market [23] - securing contracts as the mobile payments provider for Wrexham County Borough Council[24] and Cornwall Council. The company also provides car park technology to businesses across the property and hospitality sectors, including Marriott, Hilton, Savills and JLL.[25]
