Alan Pereira Empereur (born March 10, 1994) is a Brazilian footballer who plays as a defender for Italian club Hellas Verona.[1] He also holds Italian citizenship.

Playing career

Early career

Empereur started out playing for local clubs Associação Esportiva e Recreativa Usipa and Associação Atlética Aciaria, respectively. From there, he made the move to Atlético Mineiro's youth academy, where he played in their youth leagues and various cups.[2] During a tournament in São Paulo in January 2007, he caught the attention of an agent, Camilo Abranches, who offered to take him to Italy to join the Fiorentina youth team.[3] His Italian ancestry, through his paternal grandfather, allowed him to easily secure an Italian passport, facilitating the transition.[2]

At Fiorentina, he passed through the U15 and U17 squads before graduating to the Primavera (U19) team in 2010, where he made 59 league appearances in four seasons. He eventually rose to the position of captain,[4] and regularly trained with the first team.[2]

Club career

In January 2014, it was reported that negotiations were underway to send Empereur to Teramo on a loan.[5] He said his goodbyes and thanked the city through his Facebook account on January 20.[6] However, negotiations continued for over a week,[7] and on February 1, the day of the transfer deadline, it was reported that the deal had fallen through.[8]

Empereur was loaned out to Ischia in the third-tier Lega Pro in August.[9] He made his debut on August 31, playing the full 90 minutes in a 1-0 loss to Benevento.[10] Ischia finished near the bottom of the table in his only season there, but Empereur was seen as one of the team's lone bright spots that year.[11]

Upon his return to Fiorentina in February 2015, he was loaned out to Serie B team Livorno for five months,[12] although he spent most of his stint with Amaranto on the bench. His only appearance for the club was on February 7, when he came on for Giuseppe Gemiti in a 5-2 win against Bari.[13]

In July, he signed a three-year deal with Teramo.[14][15][16] However, less than two months later, Empereur and his new team mutually agreed to part ways.[17][18] His only appearance with them came on August 9, when he played the full 90 minutes of a Coppa Italia match against Cittadella.[19]

He joined Salernitana on a three-year contract in August;[20][21] he made his debut on September 26 against Ternana, coming on to replace Andrea Bovo.[22][23]

In July 2016, Empereur signed a three-year deal with Foggia.[24][25]

On 17 August 2018, Empereur signed with Serie B side Hellas Verona.[26]
