Al-Tall Al-Zaynabiya (at night), as the place where Zaynab viewed Battle of Karbala

Al-Tall Al-Zaynabiyya (Arabic: التل الزینبیة) is the name of a holy place in Karbala, Iraq.[1][2][3] It overlooks the site of the martyrdom of Husayn ibn Ali, who was killed during the Battle of Karbala on the day of Ashura.[4]

In the Battle of Karbala, Ali ibn Abi Talib's daughter and Husayn's sister (Zaynab) went to that place (Tall Zaynabiyya) and embarked looking at the battle between his brother Husayn ibn Ali and the enemies -- in order to be informed of his brother's status.[5][6]

Al-Tall Al-Zaynabiyya is located on the southwest of Husayn's shrine, and is regarded among Shia shrines and it is approximately 5 meters higher than the floor of the courtyard; its distance till the place in where Husayn ibn Ali was killed is almost 35 meters. This site has been built like a room which has access by a few stages; moreover it has a dome with blue tile(s). The recent rebuilding of Tall al-Zaynabiyya was done by the year 1978 (near the end of 1398 A.H.).[7]

Meaning

In Arabic, the word "Tall" (Arabic: تل) means a projection of soil/sand on the ground,[8] and the word Zaynabiyya is related to Zaynab, Ali ibn Abi Talib's daughter.[9][10]
