Agent J (Chinese: 特務J) is the ninth studio album by Taiwanese singer Jolin Tsai. It was released on September 21, 2007, by Capitol Music Taiwan.[1] It was renamed Love Mission (Chinese: 爱情任务) in mainland China. Tsai's last studio album, Dancing Diva (2006), not only brought her to the top of the charts, but also won her the Golden Melody Best Mandarin Female Singer and Most Popular Female Singer awards.[1] Expectations were naturally high for the new record, and Tsai was upping the ante with eleven new tracks and her first ever music movie.[1] The album is set to be as successful as Dancing Diva, and keep her at the top of the Asian pop lists.[2] The album has sold more than 2.5 million copies in Asia,[3] with more than 200,000 copies sold in Taiwan alone,[4] and became the best-selling album of the year in Taiwan.[4] The eleventh track, "Sun Will Never Set", reached number 1 on the Hit FM Top 100 Singles of the Year.[5] The title track, "Agent J", reached number 14 on the chart.[5] The second track, "Bravo Lover", reached number 41 on the chart.[5] The album earned Tsai an MTV Asia Award nomination for Favorite Artist Taiwan.[6]

Plot

The film is divided into three sections. In the first section, Tsai played the role of a girl who traveled with boyfriend in Paris. She was taken away by a secret organization and got brainwashed, and was selected as a special agent due to her lithe physique. Tsai's boyfriend worked as a private bodyguard in a specialized agency of the witness security protection, and tracked down the Agent J who looks like his girlfriend. Tsai's latest mission was to assassinate her boyfriend. Tsai was confused about the smile the man gave to her when she fired the gun, and she went to his apartment and found the old photos bearing witness to her past.

In the second section, Tsai played the role of a girl in prison, and was selected by a secret organization to carry out an assassination in exchange for her freedom. Her target Blue Beard received intelligence and sent two killers to assassinate her in London. She met a photographer in an alley and fled under the cover of the man. Later they started a relationship, but one day Tsai found her photographer boyfriend was actually a special agent sent by her target. On the night she went to assassinate Blue Beard, and Blue Beard shot her boyfriend from behind.

In the third section, Tsai played an undercover agent who was instructed to save another agent who approached a gang boss in Bangkok. However, she found the agent was her ex-boyfriend Vince who was supposed to be died a few years ago. One day both of their undercover identities exposed, and they started a gun battle with gang members. Vince took a bullet, and Tsai took him back to her apartment to repair his wound. Another day Vince asked her to leave, and he decided to assassinate the gang boss alone. Vince successfully assassinate the gang boss, but took a bullet in the chest.[8]
