Afmadow District

Afmadow is the oldest district in Lower Jubba of Somalia. It was first established as a town in 1896. It is occupied by one of the major Sub-clans of the wardey dir. The people in this district use livestock as their major economic activity, though the district has fertile land for farming. In comparison the proportion of people farming are few. It is a strategic district which shares borders with so many other districts in Somalia as well as the neighbouring country, Kenya. It is a centre of business. It is the district that hosts the most livestock in Somalia (Lo' cadey) and due to this most of the livestock exported are from this district.

The people in Afmadow use the sultan system of administration. The main sultan resides in Afmadow town and in each of the towns they have their Ugaas who will be reporting to the Sultan. Ahmed Magan was the first Sultan and later after his death his son Ali Sokor inherited the Sultanate and it continued until the current Sultan Abdullahi Ali Sokor.
