Adrian Vivian Sinton Hill (born 1958) is a vaccinologist, Director of the Jenner Institute, Professor of Human Genetics at the University of Oxford and Consultant Physician.

Early life and education

Adrain was born on 9 October 1958.[2] He studied medicine at Trinity College Dublin and then went on to do a PhD in population genetics at the University of Oxford, supervised by John Clegg FRS.[3][4]

Career and Research

During his time at the Wellcome Trust Centre for Human Genetics he and his research group studied genetic susceptibility to infections such as malaria, TB, and HIV. He is now developing vaccines which produce cellular (T-cell) immunity using Adenovirus and MVA viral vector vaccines in a prime-boost regime.[5] His group has developed vaccines against malaria which were tested in clinical trials.[6] In 2014 he led a clinical trial of an Ebola vaccine (cAd3-ZEBOV) in response to the West African Ebola virus epidemic.[5][7][8] In 2014 Adrain became director of Vaccitech, a spin-out company of the University of Oxford.[9]
