Act Governing Relations between the People of the Taiwan Area and the Mainland Area

The Act Governing Relations between the People of the Taiwan Area and the Mainland Area (Chinese: 臺灣地區與大陸地區人民關係條例; pinyin: Táiwān Dìqū Yǔ Dàlù Dìqū Rénmín Guānxì Tiáolì) is the act in the Republic of China to guide the interaction between the people in Taiwan with the people in Mainland China in all aspects of life.[1]

The act is enacted in accordance with Article 10 of the Additional Articles of the Constitution of the Republic of China promulgated on 1 May 1991. It is a special law governing the rights and obligations between the people in the Taiwan area and the Mainland area prior to the reunification of the nation. The main purpose of the act is to protect the security and welfare of the people in Taiwan area.[2]

History

The act was drafted in the early 1990s and passed on 31 July 1992.[3]
