Abu Tesht

Coordinates: 26°05′53″N 32°05′37″E / 26.09806°N 32.09361°E / 26.09806; 32.09361 Abu Tesht is a city and Markaz in the Qena governorate (province).

History

It is considered one of the oldest inhabited areas in Egypt as it includes the Naqada area which contain remains of prehistoric civilizations as Naqada culture.

Civil unrest

There is the report of civil-disorder within the city having occurred between Muslim persons estimated at 1000 and Coptic Christians who were attacked on November 17, 2010.[2][3] Further hostilities contra-religieux are evidenced by the church of St Anthony, this having been set alight and the building kept from being rebuilt by Muslim objectors.[4]
