Abhishek Banerjee (born 7 November 1987) is an Indian politician and a member of parliament to the 16th Lok Sabha from Diamond Harbour Lok Sabha constituency, West Bengal. He won the Indian general election, 2014 being an All India Trinamool Congress candidate. He is also the National President of All India Trinamool Youth Congress[1] the youth wing of the All India Trinamool Congress, a political party in India, currently in power in the Indian state of West Bengal

Personal life and career

Abhishek is the nephew of West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee.[2] He is called the "cub of the 16 Lok Sabha" as he is the youngest MP of the lower house.[3] Name of his father is Amit and mother' name is Lata.

Political career

Abhishek started his political career as National President of All India Trinamool YUVA[4] in July 2012. He contested in Indian general election, 2014 from the Diamond Harbour (Lok Sabha constituency) and defeated CPI-M's Dr. Abul Hasnat, BJP's Abhijit Das Bobby[5] and elected as the Member of Parliament. Abhishek was announced as the leader of All India Trinamool Youth Congress in October 2014.[6]
