AKB48 Team TP, formerly known as TPE48, is a Taiwanese idol girl group and the fourth international sister group of AKB48, after Indonesia's JKT48, China's SNH48 (currently replaced by AKB48 Team SH), Thailand's BNK48 and Philippines' MNL48 . The group is named after Taipei, the capital city of Taiwan.

History

TPE48

The creation of the TPE48 was announced on October 10, 2011 in AKB48's Official Blog.[1] At that time, AKS cooperated with Yoshimoto Kogyo Taipei Branch and expected to start audition work in 2012. However, the two sides failed to reach a consensus in the preparation work, and thus they were discontinued after the second half of 2012.

In April 2015, AKS held the "AKB48 Taiwan Audition" to recruit Taiwanese AKB48 members during the HKT48's Taiwan concert. In August of same year, the final results of the election were announced and the winners formed "AKB48 Taiwan Kenkyusei", and including the first foreign member of AKB48, Ma Chia-ling.

On March 26 2016, AKS announced the creating of TPE48 again at the Minami Takahashi's graduation concert,[2] and recruited of 1st generation members on September 1 to October 1, 2017.[3]

AKB48 Team TP

On June 16, 2018, TPE48 Entertainment, TPE48's management company, suffered a financial crisis, members and staff didn't get paid about 3 months ago.[4] On July 30, 2018, AKS had canceled a joint venture and license agreement with TPE48 Entertainment and created AKB48 Team TP.[5][6]
