A.M.H. Nazeem

A.M.H.Nazeem is the former MLA of Karaikal South (Union Territory Assembly constituency) and former Health minister & Opposition leader of Puducherry union territory in India. He is one of the popular person and full-time politician in the region of Karaikal. He had did many good things for development of Karaikal district. [1]

Career

Nazeem is the most important political figure in the region. His political career started in the year 1983. In 1990 he was elected as to the Puducherry Assembly from Karaikal North (Union Territory Assembly constituency) in 1991, 1996, 2001 and 2006. In 2011, he contested the newly created Karaikal South (Union Territory Assembly constituency) and won there.[2] In 1996 when DMK was in power, he became the health minister. In 2006, he was the opposition leader.[3] He was defeated by K.A.U.Asana in the 2016 election by just 20 votes. Many alliance party workers worked against A.M.H.Nazeem during 2016 election. Although, he lost only by 20 votes.[4]

Development in Karaikal under his career

  • Nazeem is the MLA who helped for the re-construction of Chandra Theertham temple tank.
  • He is responsible for the festival of theppam in Chandra Theertham temple tank after 30 years.
  • He helped in constructing and celebrating the Karaikal chariot festival.[5][6]
