The 5 sen coin (五銭銀貨) was a Japanese coin worth one twentieth of a Japanese yen, as 100 sen equalled 1 yen.[1] These coins were minted from the late 19th century until the end of World War II. Like the other denominations of sen, these coins were eventually taken out of circulation at the end of 1953.[2] While not in circulation anymore, these coins are bought and sold by numismatics for academic study, and by those with a hobby.
