The 2021 Summer Universiade, the XXXI Summer Universiade, is scheduled for 2021.

Host selection

On 1 September 2014, FISU launched of the bidding process for the 2021 Winter and Summer Universiades.[2] The bidding cities still have to be announced.

Romania Bucharest

In March 2015, just after the end of 2015 Winter Universiade FISU has been informed about the intention of Bucharest, capital of Romania to make a bid for the 2021 Summer Universiade.[3] If Bucharest wins the bidding process this will be the second time which the city will host the Summer Universiade. The first time was in 1981.

Colombia Cali

In July 2016, FISU has been informed about the intention of the city of Santiago de Cali, Colombia interested in hosting the 2021 Summer Universiade.[4] If Cali wins,this will be the second South American city to host the Summer Universiade the first was Porto Alegre, Brazil in 1963, the first since 1979 to be held in Latin America, and the first since 1993 to be held in the Americas.
