The 201st Infantry Battalion (Ready Reserve), 1502nd Infantry Brigade (Ready Reserve),[1] known officially as The Proud 201st, is one of the battalions of the Army Reserve Command which is organic to the 1502nd Infantry Brigade (Ready Reserve). It is an infantry unit, and specializes in MOUT, disaster relief, and Civil Military Operations.

History

The 201IB(RR) was activated consequent to the activation of the 1502IBDE(RR). Its initial task and workload was handed over from the now defunct 1st (QUEZMAR) Ready Reserve Battalion and its initial troop strength came from QUEZMAR's pool of reserve officers and enlisted reservists.

ROTC Graduates[2] and products of the unit's own BCMT Classes[3][4] filled out the required troop strength required for a battalion sized unit.

By 2010, the battalion was designated as a Ready Reserve - 1 (RR1) unit by the Philippine Army, tasked to fulfill certain roles within the AFP organization not currently covered by any of the AFP regular units (e.g. CMO, Disaster and Emergency Management, Public Affairs). It was also tasked as to become one of the lead force multipliers for the AFP NCR Command, reporting directly under the 15ID(RR).[5]

When NCRCOM was deactivated, operational control of the unit was transferred to the newly activated Joint Task Force-NCR and currently serves as one of its frontline units, especially during times of calamities, and national emergencies.[6][7]

Mission

  • Base for expansion of the Regular Force in the event of war, invasion or rebellion within its AOP.
  • Assist the Government in Relief and Rescue Operations in the event of Calamities or Disasters.[7]
  • Assist the Government in Socio-economic development and environmental concerns.[8]
  • Assist in the operation and maintenance of essential government and private utilities (e.g. power, telecommunications, water).

Mobilization center

The 201st Infantry Battalion's mobilization center is the 1302nd Community Defense Center, NCRRCDG, ARESCOM which is based inside the AFP Peacekeeping Operations Center at Camp General Emilio Aguinaldo, Barangay Socorro, Quezon City.

It is strategically located near the headquarters of the AFP Joint Task Force-National Capital Region allowing the Task Force to readily deploy the unit at any time during a declaration of state of emergency by the national government.
