The competition will be contested in two-legged home-and-away format between the 2018 Copa Libertadores champions and the 2018 Copa Sudamericana champions. The first leg will be hosted by the Copa Sudamericana champions on 20 February 2019, while the second leg will be hosted by the Copa Libertadores champions on 6 March 2019.[1][2]
The Recopa Sudamericana is played on a home-and-away two-legged basis, with the Copa Libertadores champions hosting the second leg. If tied on aggregate, the away goals rule is not used, and 30 minutes of extra time is played. If still tied after extra time, the penalty shoot-out is used to determine the winner.[3][4]
