The 2019 FIFA U-17 World Cup will be the 18th edition of the FIFA U-17 World Cup, the biennial international men's youth football championship contested by the under-17 national teams of the member associations of FIFA, since its inception in 1985 as the FIFA U-16 World Championship and the 15th since age limit was raised from 16 to 17 in 1991.

The tournament will be hosted by Peru between 5 and 27 October 2019.[2][1] It will mark the second time Peru have hosted the U-17 tournament, after the 2005 FIFA U-17 World Championship. England are the defending champions.

Host selection

The bidding process to host the 2019 FIFA U-20 World Cup and the 2019 FIFA U-17 World Cup was launched by FIFA in June 2017.[3] A member association may bid for both tournaments, but they would be awarded to different hosts.[4]

Candidate countries

Two countries publicly declared their formal bids to host the tournament.

On 8 March 2018, Rwanda withdrew its bid to host the tournament due to time and logistic aspects.[7] FIFA then unanimously announced Peru as the host country after the FIFA Council meeting on 16 March 2018 in Bogotá, Colombia.[2]

Qualified teams

Currently a total of 24 teams qualify for the final tournament. In addition to Peru who qualifies automatically as hosts, 23 other teams qualify from six separate continental competitions. The slot allocation was approved by the FIFA Council on 10 June 2018.[8]
