The 2018 FAI Senior Challenge Cup is the 98th edition of the oldest football competition in the Republic of Ireland. It is sponsored by Irish Daily Mail, and known as Irish Daily Mail FAI Senior Cup for sponsorship purposes. It began with the Preliminary Round on 21 April 2018, and will conclude with the final on 4 November 2018. The winner will qualify for the 2019–20 Europa League first qualifying round.
Cork City are the defending champions.[1]
Preliminary Round
The draw for the qualifying round was made on 4 April 2018. Tony Fitzgerald, President of the Football Association of Ireland, was joined by Dundalk goalkeeper and three-time FAI Cup winner Gary Rogers along with David Vaz, Circulation Manager for the Irish Daily Mail to perform the draw.
20 teams entered the Qualifying Round, with four teams (Home Farm, Cockhill Celtic, Newmarket Celtic and Blarney United) receiving a bye to the First Round. The remaining 16 teams will play eight games, with the winners entering the First Round.
The Irish Daily Mail has offered a cash prize for the non-league team who advances the furthest in the competition.[2]
