- January 29 - SCAT Airlines Flight 760 that was scheduled to fly from Kokshetau to Almaty, crashed in near Kyzyltu on 29 January, killing all 21 people on board.[1]

- May 7 - The first military parade in honour of Defender of the Fatherland Day was held at the Otar Military Base.[2][3]

- August 10-17 - Kazakhstan competed at the 2013 World Championships in Athletics in Moscow, Russia, from 10–18 August 2013. A team of 17 athletes was announced to represent the country in the event.[4]
