The 1971 Pot Black was the third year of the professional invitational snooker tournament, which was broadcast in 1971. The tournament was held in Birmingham, and featured eight professional players. All matches were one-frame shoot-outs.

Broadcasts were on BBC2 and started with an introductory programme at 21:45 on Wednesday 17 February 1971[1] The tournament as last year was a round-robin format with two groups of 4 and the top two players from each group would qualify to the semi-finals. The players were mainly the same as the last two championships but David Taylor made his television debut in this series replacing Ray Reardon. Alan Weeks presented the programme with Ted Lowe as commentator and Sydney Lee as referee.

John Spencer retained his Pot Black title beating Fred Davis 88–27 in the one-frame final broadcast on 2 June.[2][3]
