Etymology

From Proto-Turkic *ben (β€œI”). An early nasalized form of π°‹π°€β€Ž (ben), both attested at Orkhon inscriptions. Cognate to Turkish ben (β€œI”), one of the only modern Turkic forms along with Gagauz preserving initial /b/. Compare also Turkish -im (β€œfirst person singular suffix”).
