Compound of 焼き (yaki) + (sakana, fish). The former portion is the  (れん) (よう) (けい) (ren'yōkei, stem or continuative form) of the verb  () (yaku, burn, grill). The sakana changes to zakana as an instance of rendaku (連濁).
