From Proto-Hellenic *ántʰos, from Proto-Indo-European *h₂éndʰos. Cognate with Vedic Sanskrit अन्धस् (ándhas, “Soma, grass, herb”), Albanian end, Old Armenian անդ (and, “field”), possibly Old Frisian åndul.
