From Proto-Hellenic *ántʰos, from Proto-Indo-European *h₂éndʰos. Cognate with Vedic Sanskrit अन्धस् (ándhas, Soma, grass, herb), Albanian end, Old Armenian անդ (and, field), possibly Old Frisian åndul.
