From หญิง (yǐng, woman) + งาม (ngaam, beautiful) + เมือง (mʉʉang, city), literally "beautiful woman of the city; calque of Pali nagara sobhiṇī (city's courtesan, literally city's beautiful woman), from which Thai นครโสภิณี was derived.
