From Proto-Southwestern Tai *kʰwiːᴮ (to ride), from Middle Chinese (MC ɡˠiᴇ, “to ride”).[1] Cognate with Lao ຂີ່ (khī), ᦃᦲᧈ (ẋii1), Shan ၶီႇ (khìi), Ahom 𑜁𑜣 (khii), Zhuang gwih.
