ขลาด

From Old Khmer khlāca (“to quail, to shrink back, to cower; to be fearful, to be afraid; to fear, to be afraid of, to dread; for fear that; etc”). Cognate with Modern Khmer ខ្លាច (khlaac). Perhaps corrupted as Thai ขยาด (kà-yàat).

ขลาด • (klàat) (abstract noun ความขลาด)

1. coward; faint-hearted; poor-spirited; fearful; timid; timorous; tremulous.
   • Isaiah 7:4, KJV:

     จงระวังและสงบใจ อย่ากลัว อย่าให้พระทัยของพระองค์ขลาดด้วยเหตุเศษดุ้นฟืนที่จวนมอดทั้งสองนี้
