From Middle Chinese 告 (MC kɑu^H, kuok̚, “to report”). Cognate with Lao ກ່າວ (kāo), Shan ၵၢဝ်ႇ (kàaw), Ahom 𑜀𑜈𑜫 (kaw), 𑜀𑜨𑜧 (kow) or 𑜀𑜨𑜈𑜫 (kow).

กล่าว • (glàao) (abstract noun การกล่าว)

1. (formal) to express in words: to declare, to mention, to say, to speak, to tell, etc.
   • 1 Corinthians 9:8, KJV:

     ข้าพเจ้ากล่าวอย่างนี้ตามอย่างมนุษย์หรือ พระราชบัญญัติมิได้กล่าวอย่างนี้เหมือนกันหรือ

     kâa-pá-jâao glàao yàang níi dtaam yàang má-nút rʉ̌ʉ prá-râat-chá-ban-yàt mí dâai glàao yàang níi mʉ̌ʉan-gan rʉ̌ʉ

     Say I these things as a man? or saith not the law the same also?
