From Old Marathi 𑘭𑘳𑘨𑘲 (surī), from Sanskrit क्षुरी (kṣurī). Cognate with Gujarati છરી (charī), Hindustani छुरी (churī) / چھری (churī), Punjabi ਛੁਰੀ (cḥurī) / چھری (churī), Bengali ছুরি (churi), Assamese ছুৰী (suri).
