From Proto-Indo-Iranian *Hyawdʰ- (to fight, to battle), from Proto-Indo-European *Hyewdʰ- (to move, to be agitated). Cognate with Avestan 𐬫𐬏𐬌𐬜𐬌𐬌𐬈𐬌𐬙𐬌 (yūiδiieiti, to fight), Parthian yws- (to battle), Latin iubeō, Lithuanian judėti.
