From Old Marathi पोट (poṭa), from Maharastri Prakrit 𑀧𑁄𑀝𑁆𑀝 (poṭṭa), from Proto-Indo-Aryan *poṭṭa. Compare Hindi पेट (peṭ).
Usage notes
The second meaning of पोट, "womb, uterus", is figurative.
