Said to be from दु (du) + क्ष (kṣa), Probably a Prakrit form of earlier दुःस्थ (duḥstha, poor), from दुस्- (dus-, bad) + स्था (sthā, to stand).possibly a Prakrit form of सुस्थ (sustha); compare शुख (śukha).
