From Sauraseni Prakrit 𑀓𑀺𑀁 (kiṃ), 𑀓𑀺 (ki), from Sanskrit किम् (kim, what, which). Compare Punjabi ਕੀ (), Gujarati કિયું (kiyũ), Marathi की (), Bengali কি (ki), Assamese কি (ki).
