Etymology

Borrowed from Aramaic מֹורִיקָא‎ (mōrīqā) / ܡܽܘܪܻܝܩܳܐ‎ (mūrīqā, “safflower”), from the root י־ר־ק‎ (y-r-q) that corresponds to Arabic و ر ق‎ (w-r-q) related to yellow or green colours, compare يَرَقَان‎ (yaraqān) and Proto-Semitic *waraq-.
