- wine of high sugar content prepared from the juice that grapes release without pressing, for they have become sweet and slack from hanging to long on the vines ☛ such a wine has no English name but is being known from German wine regions as Ausbruch, Vorschuss, Vorlauf, Vorsprung, Vorlass, Beerwein, from Bohemia as samoteč, samotok, from Croatia as samòtok, from Slovenia as samotok, from Hungary as aszú, and by the Ancient Romans and Greeks as protropum and πρότροπος (prótropos) and πρόδρομος (pródromos). It is not to be confused with straw wine.
