  1. to cause oneself to bear wrongdoing, to resist in spite of being troubled, to cause oneself to suffer through injustice or oppression
  2. to tolerate those suppressing what is right, to suppress the urge to retaliate, to take the brunt of harm, to just take the hit or slight to one's person
