אַשְׁרֵי • ('ashréi)

1. (Biblical Hebrew) happy is/was/will be
   • 1 Kings 10:8, with translation of the Jewish Publication Society:

     ‏אַשְׁרֵי אֲנָשֶׁיךָ אַשְׁרֵי עֲבָדֶיךָ אֵלֶּה הָעֹמְדִים לְפָנֶיךָ תָּמִיד הַשֹּׁמְעִים אֶת־חָכְמָתֶךָ׃‎‎

     Happy are thy men, happy are these thy servants, that stand continually before thee, and that hear thy wisdom.

     ‏אַשְׁרֵי הָאִישׁ אֲשֶׁר לֹא הָלַךְ בַּעֲצַת רְשָׁעִים וּבְדֶרֶךְ חַטָּאִים לֹא עָמָד וּבְמוֹשַׁב לֵצִים לֹא יָשָׁב׃‎‎

     Happy is the man that hath not walked in the counsel of the wicked, nor stood in the way of sinners, nor sat in the seat of the scornful.

     The eyes of Rabbi Eleazar ben Shammua trickled with tears and he said, “Happy are you, learned men, to whom the words of the Torah are most beloved!”
